Wood Panel

Project theme:
A wood panel is a popular form of North Coast indigenous art. The panel can have either carved or drawn images.
Tools & Materials
Material List
  • Tracing paper
  • Wood (cedar, preferably)
  • Copper
  • Safety glasses
  • Work gloves

  • Adze Knives
  • Bent Knives
Procedure
  1. Sketch out the design
  2. Put tracing paper over wood to refine all the lines
  3. Transfer the design onto the oval panel
  4. Do the main cuts, v-cuts, and bevel cuts
  5. Cut out copper and inflate it into the eyes
  6. Put beeswax on the wood to protect and finish it off
  7. Put the hanger and wire in the back of the panel
